10th January 2014. My group and I were asked to
practice a few shots and we took the opportunity to practice a shot that we
knew we would struggle with. An idea we had would be to have the camera spin
around our actors with them looking straight ahead. We assumed it would be a problem with a big
camera because it’s heavy and we wouldn't be able to keep it steady, but even
with a handheld camera it seemed to be an issue. At first we got Megan to turn around on the spot and we held the camera still, when we reviewed the footage we discovered it looked very unprofessional. Another idea we had was to have Megan stand still and the camera walked around her. This looked a lot better but an issue we would face would be that the rest of the room would have to be viewed and after having done a recce in the room we know that there are a lot of props and costumes that can't be moved from the room and this could ruin the continuity or feel of the video.
We also practiced a pan shot (scene 4, shot 3) across Megan’s face as we
wanted to practice how close we would be zoomed in or how close the camera would need to be held to her face. we also needed to get the speed right, as she would need to mime "she's got a pretty kind of dirty face." We found a white wall in a stairwell that seemed appropriate for the use, as we wanted a white wall but the white room where we are filming our real music video was in use. we chose to have the shot zoomed in far enough just to see Megan's whole face - forehead to chin.
